[attr="class","leymain"]The gym was empty. There were no challengers in the queue today, and Memo had been utilizing the open space to let Sibella stretch her wings. She flew in circles, painfully slow, and every movement of the sun through the clouds or a vehicle outside made her twitch as though something had jumped in her face.

It was a far cry from the lithe, fierce, beautiful dragon-bat that had carried him INTO Littleroot. It made Guillermo’s heart hurt.

There was a loud crash, and Memo turned to look down the hall towards the gym office.

“...Alex?” he tried. No answer. “Ethan? Claire?”

The gym floor lurched, and Memo pitched forward with a yell.

Right now, he was at the desk, finishing up some paperwork that Claire had left behind for him to review when he thought… wait a second, when did the edges of his vision start blurring like that? What was… what was going on?

There was a prickly feeling of apprehension as he stood up, collected the papers and placed it in the envelope before sliding it back into the desk. The hairs on the back of his neck were standing up, alerting him that there was something… there was something coming, most likely.

He wasn’t wrong, the moment he heard his boyfriend yelling for him.

“Memo?” he shouted back, running in the direction of his voice, apprehension heavy around him as he did so.

What… what was going on?!

“Are—are you okay?!”

“Y-yeah, I’m fine,” he called, looking nervously at the ground around him, “but I think we just had an earthqua--!”

The gym floor rolled again. Tiles popped up with a series of hisses and clicks as ridges of earth punched through and rose into small peaks. A giant seam split diagonally across the gym floor. Memo rolled away from the gaping maw in the earth, coming up to his knees. Sibella landed behind him, chirping loudly in concern.

He saw Alex on the other side of the fissure.

“Don’t come in, the ground’s unstable!”

As he continued his approach, he realized something.

The one single thing he never wanted to see again had—reappeared. Was there a crack in reality nearby that they had to fix?!

“What earthquake? Are you alright, I—” he trailed off, realizing that the fucking pink mist (it looked more purple to him on this side of the room) was there once again.

“Oh, come on!” he hissed, bracing himself as he hung apprehensively on the opposite side of the room.

“Take a deep breath, Frog! It’s just, it’s just—” he continued as he realized that the longer they stayed in here, the more the mist would spread and—

Oh, hell no.

“What-- what is this?” he asked, squinting into it to try and make out Alex’s shape on the other side of the fissure. It was vaguely familiar though he couldn’t quite place it. “Alex?”

Sibella tried to beat the mist back with her wings, though she couldn’t stop all of it from encroaching upon them; Memo tried backing up to get away from it, though it clung to his ankles and seemed to reach for him like a living thing.

“Stay where you are!” he yelled, for once fucking thankful that his height gave him an advantage. “Try not to breathe the mist in, or have it touch you!” he continued as he mentally crossed his fingers—

And literally ran straight into the curlicues of wispy fog, determined to all hell to reach him on the opposite side of the room, to reassure him that they were going to be alright, that—

But then again, this is Hoenn.

Nothing would be alright.

[attr="class","leymain"]“Too late for that!” Memo called back, kicking at the strange, clinging tendrils of spoke that wound round his ankles. He covered his mouth with the crook of his elbow and scrabbled backwards.

There was a loud, computer-like beep, and then the ground lit up. A glowing bar stretched from wall to wall, buzzing as it transversed the space, sliding under Memo’s feet… just like it had back in the Cloud.

“Oh, no,” Memo said, stomach dropping. “No, no, no, no.” He stumbled to his feet and reached for Sibella, grabbing her fur and tugging, shouting “Fly! Fly fly flyflyflyfly!” in a panicked voice, even though she couldn’t hear him, even though there was no way to escape it, even though there was nowhere to go.

While he’d run straight into the curling pink mist, he thought he heard something—was that the howling of wind? Looking around wildly, he tried to pick out where his partner had vanished off to in the nearby area; however it was too thick to see shit properly…

“Memo? Memo?! Where are you?!” he yelled as he squinted through the pervading gloom; the wind only picking up in strength and intensity the more he stayed rooted to the spot.

“I-I can’t find you!”

Truly, this pink ‘interdream mist’ was extremely wicked, in more ways than one…

He was a sudden and unwelcome weight on Sibella’s back, the deaf bat dragged down and unaware of what was happening; she thrashed and flailed, wings snapping open and shut as she shrieked in a high pitch. Memo was swung and battered by her convulsing, but all he could think of was how scared he was that he was going to lose himself again.

He didn’t hear Alex, or really see the world around him. Sibella finally managed to dislodge him and he fell-- and fell, and fell, and fell, and fell.

He was rooted to the spot, trying to squint through the gloom and find where his partner had disappeared off to—the mist really did have ways of fucking over someone’s spatial awareness, to boot.

“Where—” he trailed off, walking forward in a random direction as he tried to listen over the roaring wind; he had an inkling what was making that wind but did not dare think of it because that would have been insanely dangerous…

“C-can you hear me?!” he yelled, cupping his hands to his mouth so that his voice could carry through the seemingly infinitely-expanding room before them.

He could not hear anything, really, except the static roar of blood in his ears. Everything had become muffled, distant, and he was just a permanently looping animation of falling, twisting, falling, spinning, falling, falling, falling…

…Sibella, meanwhile, ended up somehow breaking free of the nightmare curse, and crawled up to Alex, panting and flecked with sweat, nuzzling under his arm, seeking comfort.

He knew he had to hold his breath for as long as he could manage, because there was no way in fucking hell he was going to allow himself to inhale any of the mist that was swirling around his feet—and a looming shadow suddenly broke through and found him.

It… it wasn’t Memo; but his Noivern, Sibella.

“Where—where is he?!” he exclaimed as he continued to squint around, trying to pick out where the pervading mist had taken his partner.

“Can you take me to him?! Please!” he continued, rubbing the sides of the Noivern’s neck to comfort her.

Around them, the mist bloomed, flowers of dreadful spring. It reached out with poisonous, pink tendrils, wafting, waving.

Sibella shrieked at the top of her lungs, rose up to her tallest height, and flapped her wings, firing off sharp bursts of air cutter to beat back the fog, slicing chevrons through it, finger drawings on a dewy window; it opened up little blinks, viewports in the mist, giving Alex a peek through to find what he was looking for.

“Whoa… Bella, Bella!” he would shriek in return, trying to calm the Noivern down before the belated realization of ‘this Noivern is deaf’ sunk in; how was he going to get her to listen to him?!

He would try to get as close to the bat-dragon’s peripheral vision before the Air Cutter attacks cleaved through the mist—but there was nothing in the direction where they were aimed.

He then realized—if she couldn’t hear him, he would have to do this in a very different way!

Waving his fingers in the Noivern’s line of vision, he would then point to another direction; before flapping his fingers together like a set of wings.

Hopefully she could understand the cue to use Air Cutter in the direction he was now pointing at!
